July 30th, 2008                                                                            Issue 18

Greetings!

At FLEET FEET St. Louis, we are firm believers that running is more than just a hobby. It is a passion. It is a commitment to health. It is a celebration of hard work and perseverance. It is an appreciation for creation and the world around us. By participating in local races, runners not only promote healthy lifestyles, they also support charities and raise money for worthy causes. That's why FLEET FEET is proud to host the local Nike Human Race 10K run on August 31st, 2008. Over one million runners around the world will participate in this unique event to help raise money for the Livestrong Foundation, Ninemillion (part of the UN Refugee Fund), and the World Wildlife Fund. It is running with a purpose. It is running to help others. It is running at its best.

You know that running is more than PRs and t-shirts. It is a way to inspire and care for the world around us. So, thank you, runners, for being strong mile after mile.

Sincerely,
Your Friends at FLEET FEET St. Louis

Nike + Human Race 10K Run

FLEET FEET to Host Local Nike+ Human Race 10K Run

On Sunday, August 31st, you can be a part of the world's largest running event. The Nike+ Human Race is an unprecedented virtual event in which over one million people from around the world will run a 10K on the same day in a massive effort to raise money for three incredible charities: The Livestrong Foundation, Ninemillion (a UN Refugee Fund), and the World Wildlife Fund. Twenty-five major world cities-- from London to Tokyo to Istanbul-- will host an official Human Race 10K, while smaller, local runs will be held across the globe.

FLEET FEET Sports is proud to host the St. Louis area’s Nike+ Human Race 10K. On Sunday, August 31st, we invite you to join us in Forest Park for a 6.2 mile group run on Forest Park’s running path. We will start at 7:30am from Picnic Area #8, which is located on Wells in the southwest corner of the park – west of the Zoo. Participants should park along Wells and Government wherever they can. After we take a group photo at the start, the Human Racers will travel clockwise along the Forest Park pathway until their Nike+ system reaches 6.2 miles. After that, they’re invited to return to the picnic area where post-run food, drinks, and tunes will be provided.

Nike SportKit     To participate in the Nike+ Human Race 10K, all you need is a Nike+ system (SportKit or SportBand) and a desire to make a positive impact on the world. If you meet those requirements, visit nikeplus.com, register your product if you haven’t already done so, and then register (for free) to run the Human Race 10K. Designate the charity you wish to support and Nike will make a donation to that charity for each Nike+ mile you record from now until 8/31. You can also pledge to personally raise additional money for one of the three charities. On race day, everyone who has registered to run the Nike+ Human Race 10K is asked to upload their results to nikeplus.com to become official Human Race finishers.
Nike SportBandParticipants can then compare their results with over one million others from around the world! To read more about this unique event, click here! If you plan on participating in the St. Louis Human Race 10K group run, please email Kristen and let her know so that we can plan accordingly. We ask that you please respect the spirit of the event and do not participate if you do not have a Nike+ system.

If you’re not familiar with the Nike+ speed and distance recorders, there will be a special pre-event at the FLEET FEET Runners Club Flat Five on Sunday, August 3rd. The Nike+ van and a crew of Nike+ experts will be on hand to answer all of your questions about the exciting Nike+ system and community so that you can make the most of your Nike+ experience. FLEET FEET Sports will have a limited number of Nike+ SportBands available for sale at the Flat Five.

We hope to see you at the world's largest running event on Sunday, August 31st, 2008!

No Boundaries Recap

No BoundariesGroup pictures from No Boundaries

After ten weeks of determination, hard work, and perseverance, graduates of the No Boundaries Training Program competed in the No Boundaries 5K on July 19th. The newest members of the running community were treated to warm summer rain, agreeable temperatures, and even a delicious a pancake breakfast (courtesy of the FLEET FEET Runners Club) at the race in Carondelet Park. Nervous chatter before the start was quickly replaced with huge smiles and the deafening ringing of cowbells as participants crossed the finish line, triumphant in their first 5K race.

Coach pic     We would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful No Boundaries coaching staff for their dedication, encouragement, fun, and stories each step of the way. We are extremely proud of each participant. Thank you all for allowing us to help you reach your goal, and we look forward to seeing you on the roads!
